Toby Tarrant has been on a mission, one unlike any other! He put his mind, body and reputation through the challenge of 5 straight days on a pedalo! It started out so simple, but the journey has been far from it!
🔴 The Route:
- Originally the route took him down a large section of the River Thames, from Henley to Putney in London. That route was cancelled due to the Environment Agency warning that the Thames was too dangerous currently for one man and his pedalo.
- Plan B took him on canals through London. That route was cancelled due to the weather sinking a boat on the route he was due to take. Again, it was too dangerous.
- But Toby Tarrant will take on the River Thames, One Wey or Another.
- So now, he’s on a river that feeds into the Thames; the River Wey in Surrey.
- This is 20 miles of water and all Toby has is his pedalo to get him from one end to the other.
- Once he’s got to one end…he’ll then go back to the start and do it all again! Eventually covering 40 miles on the River Wey!
- Then on Friday morning he’ll take on the Thames in central London and make it to his finish line in Putney.
🕰️ The Schedule:
- If you were on a bike, you could do this route in 2 hours…it’ll take Toby 2 days to complete it via pedalo.
- Toby must cover 10 miles a day on the pedalo. The average speed he will be going will be just over 1 mile an hour, that means it could take him up to 10 hours each day.
- He will burn the same number of calories as he would running a marathon.
- He may be pedalling but unlike cycling he won’t cover the same type of distance. A cyclist could cover of 100 miles in 10 hours, Toby will only be able to do 10 miles.
🌟 Why?
- Because Global’s Make Some Noise asked him to…and he foolishly said yes.
Toby Tarrant took on the River Wey and The River Thames in the ride of his life. It’s bound to be a journey for the history books – or at least one Toby will never forget.
